Our quail preserve land is a mix of hedge rows, cedars, switchgrass, lespedeza, milo, and millet, all the cover and diversity of natural habitat. Woodcock Hunts: If chasing wild birds with pointing dogs over blow downs, dead falls and tangled messes of briars sounds like a great way to spend a few hours or a couple of days then woodcock hunting was made for you. We have over 2 miles of Appomattox River frontage, hundreds of acres of flood plains, swamps, creek drainages and thickets, all prime woodcock habitat. An average day of hunting should led to many flushes, shots, and misses, Woodcock do not offer easy shooting. Quite the opposite, in fact! They are some of the most challenging and rewarding of all upland species. All of our woodcock hunts are fully guided. You are more than welcome to bring your own dog to hunt in combination with ours. Many hunters choose to combine a day or two of woodcock hunting with a half day of quail hunting. We plant several fields in sunflowers to bring the doves in by the masses. We post our September dove shoot registration forms on June 1st. See our registration form for dates, rules, and details about our dove shoots. *Private shoots can also be arranged for larger
parties please contact us for pricing*. Late Season Dove Shoots: Late season dove shoots can be surprisingly rewarding. Migratory birds mix with local populations to offer great wing-shooting. We have 8 dove fields on 3 different farms that we will scout prior to the shoot to make sure that we are hunting the best fields. We will be hunting over sunflowers, milo, cut corn, wheat and buckwheat. The hunts start at noon and end at the legal shooting time. Check in begins at 11:30 am. We will start the shoot at noon and stop around 5:00 pm. 2024 Late Season Dove Shoot Registration What to bring: Wear full camo (these birds have good eyes) 3-4 boxes of shell per person, Valid Va. Hunting license, HIP number, dove stool or chair, cooler with snacks and drinks ( No Alcohol until after the shoot). Well trained dogs are welcome. VA Hunting Licenses: All hunters are required to purchase the appropriate VA Hunting Licenses.
